First session - off to a great start

So, I implemented some things in my game that really paid off. I cut down on tables and played six tables where I really opened up my LP and SB opening range. I ran at 22/19 with a 3bet of 5.2, which is a bit low, but I didn't really get that many good 3bet spots. Overall, I played very well and ended up 3 BIs over 933 hands.

I made a couple of bad plays:

Boss Media - €0.10 NL - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3: http://www.pokertracker.com

CO: €12.06
Hero (BTN): €10.00
SB: €6.32
BB: €8.28
UTG: €7.84
MP: €25.48

SB posts SB €0.05, BB posts BB €0.10

Pre Flop: (€0.15) Hero has 3c Ac

fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to €0.30, SB calls €0.25, BB calls €0.20

Flop: (€0.90, 3 players) 3d 7d 4h
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets €0.60, SB calls €0.60, fold

Turn: (€2.10, 2 players) 4c
SB checks, Hero bets €1.40, SB calls €1.40

River: (€4.90, 2 players) As
SB bets €4.02 and is all-in, Hero calls €4.02

Hero shows 3c Ac (Two Pair, Aces and Fours) (PreFlop 64%, Flop 63%, Turn 77%)
SB shows 2c 5c (Straight, Five High) (PreFlop 36%, Flop 37%, Turn 23%)
SB wins €12.30

Here I think that betting flop and turn is pretty good against a 48/13, but I definitely should've folded river, I'm not beating anything and he has lots of better aces in his range. This is a sticking point for me, I need to learn to fold more in these spots instead of leveling myself into calling because "he's probably trying to win the pot with a busted FD".

Flop: (€2.25, 2 players) 7s Th 2d
BB bets €1.68, Hero raises to €4.00, BB raises to €8.75 and is all-in, fold

BB wins €9.74

This is just straight up spewtard against spewtard megaspew. I hate my play in this hand, and I need to remind myself not to do this kind of plays without a good reasoning behind it, which I didn't have when playing

River: (€8.45, 2 players) Kc

UTG wins €8.01

This is also a hand where I just didn't have any reasoning behind my play. Villain was completely unknown, but I should've 3bet pre. I had no idea where I was at any point in the hand, and the donk is just beyond awful. I should've c/c flop after not 3betting pre and gone for pot control, but being OOP just sucks and underlines the fact that I should've 3bet pre

Villain is 27/13 and pretty bad, but pretty face up post flop. I obv didn't have odds to call, but did anyway, which cost me 40bb

Those were the biggest losing hands beside losing AK to AQ and KQ respectively AI pre for a total of 70bb, so all in all I'm pretty happy about getting a great start to my new beginning!

A new beginning

So, I've been playing poker for a long time, winning a decent amount of money in the glory years of '07 and '08, but didn't work on my game, at all, untill I started playing the micros 4 months ago, and started posting analysis on 2+2. I've had some mixed feelings about playing again as it takes up a decent chunk of my time, while writing my Master's Thesis and spending time with girlfriend, friends, and family, but it's been a decent side income while studying, as I've won around 1k euros since my first deposit.

I've been playing ABC poker and improving my game. Things've been going well and I've been a solidly winning player.

Enter February.

February's been a long story full of sighs, and I've lost 500€ in the first three weeks, which, coincidentally, is 50% of the roll I built up (I deposited 200€ in October and have withdrawn 700€ since then). I've been running cold and bad, and accompanying bad play has compunded on it, and I've really spewed off a lot, blaming it on running bad, though I've realized that I've been playing bad.

Anyway, I've just finished reading verneer's "Moving through uNL" pdf compilation, which has inspired me a lot. I'm getting Elements of Poker and am planning to read it ASAP. I'm at the point where I either decide that poker's not for me and quit, or actually improve enough to beat the micros at a reasonable BB/100 while not spending too much time doing so, which is kind of utopic, but whatever.

I'm going to use this blog to do session reviews after each session; I won't grind on a daily basis, but post about what kind of plays I tried to apply in the session, how I kept my tilt away, and what I've learned from the session. This blog might get views, it most likely won't, but I'll use it as personal motivation, and I have a feeling that being required to write about my sessions afterward will keep me from doing dumb, spewy things. My goal is to post one hand per session on 2+2 for discussion.

My bankroll wil start @ 400€, and I'm going to play 10NL untill I hit 700€, where I'll take shots @20-25NL, and settle in at these stakes @ 1K. I have ~225€ in RB from the month so far, which may or may not be added to my BR at the end of the month. I don't have any plans for hands/month, as it's very dependent on me finishing my thesis and getting a job.

So, I guess there's not much to say untill I've played my first session, and updated this blog
